Important: This page is provided for transparency and is not legal advice. ServiceEscrow is pre-launch software; fund-moving features are gated pending completion of payment and legal review for each market. Final, binding terms will be presented at account creation before any live payment is processed.
Payments disclosure
ServiceEscrow provides payment-coordination software for home-services marketplaces. It is not a bank, escrow agent, money transmitter, lender, or insurer, and does not provide banking, fiduciary, legal, or insurance services.
- Card payments are processed by Stripe, Inc. under Stripe’s terms. Funds are captured and held in the platform’s processor balance.
- Funds are released to the contractor’s designated bank account after the homeowner approves the corresponding milestone, minus a disclosed, capped platform fee.
- The terms “escrow” and “protected payment” describe milestone-based payment coordination, not a licensed escrow product.
- Refunds are returned to the homeowner’s original payment method via Stripe. Disputes are handled through a neutral hold-and-review process.
- Contractor payouts are settled off-platform to the pro’s bank; bank details are collected and stored by the marketplace of record, encrypted at rest.
Terms of Service
Acceptable use
You agree to use ServiceEscrow only for lawful home-services transactions and not to misrepresent projects, identities, or work performed. Marketplaces integrating the API are responsible for verifying their own contractors and homeowners.
Fees
A platform fee applies per released milestone, capped per project, and is disclosed before payment. Fees are non-refundable except where a milestone is fully refunded before release.
Approvals and releases
Funds are released only on homeowner approval or the resolution of a dispute. ServiceEscrow does not adjudicate the quality of work beyond coordinating the agreed milestone-approval process.
Liability
ServiceEscrow provides software “as is” and is not liable for the work performed by contractors, the accuracy of marketplace data, or losses beyond amounts processed through the platform, to the extent permitted by law.
Privacy Policy
What we collect
To coordinate a payment we process project and milestone references, the parties’ identifiers (such as email), amounts, and payment status. Card details are entered directly with Stripe and are never stored by ServiceEscrow.
How we use it
Solely to create, fund, release, refund, and record payments, to prevent fraud, and to meet legal obligations. We do not sell personal data.
Sharing
We share data with Stripe (payment processing) and the originating marketplace (the source of record for the project). We may share data where required by law.
Security & retention
Data is transmitted over TLS and access is restricted and logged. Sensitive payout details are encrypted at rest. We retain payment records as required for accounting and legal compliance.
